Oracle XMLCONCAT tips

Oracle PL/SQL tips by Boobal Ganesan

This is an excerpt from the book Advanced PL/SQL: The Definitive Reference by Boobal Ganesan.

This function generates an XML comment using the input string passed as its parameter. The input string is converted to the form <!--Input_string--> which is the W3C standard for placing comments in an XML document.

% Note: The input string passed to this function cannot have two consecutive hyphens. If it does, the function will fail with an appropriate error as this disrupts the comment format.

When the input parameter is passed as Null, the function returns Null as its resultant.

SELECT xmlcomment('This is a comment line') xmlcomment FROM DUAL;

<!--This is a comment line-->

XMLCONCAT joins multiple xml elements together; XMLFORESTworks similarly but accepts number, characters, dates, and XMLTYPE.
