Using the analyze command and DBMS_STATS

I need to analyze a SQL statement.  Should I be using the analyze command or DBMS_STATS?


You can use the dbms_stats and do the same thing as with an analyze command.  Here is an overview:

The old fashioned "analyze table" and dbms_utility methods for generating CBO statistics are obsolete and somewhat dangerous to SQL performance. This is because the cost-based SQL Optimizer (CBO) relies on the quality of the statistics to choose the best execution plan for all SQL statements.

If you are using Oracle Partitioning then..You cannot collect the Partition Statistics By using Analyze you have to use DBMS_STATS.....
