If you haven't heard of Don Burleson, then you probably haven't
been in the Oracle business very long.
Don is one of the world's leading Oracle experts and celebrated
authors on Oracle-related topics. A retired adjunct professor
emeritus, he penned five of the officially authorized Oracle Press
books, more than 30 books on Oracle database management and hundreds
of articles in national magazines. In addition, he is a popular and
highly sought after lecturer at IT conferences worldwide.
Don has produced another winner in his article on the
SearchOracle website entitled "How to land your dream Oracle DBA
job." Mark Fontecchio, SearchOracle Editor, lauds it as #1 on
SearchOracle's list of the Top Oracle stories in 2015 hailing it the
single most read Oracle story of the year. Mark writes:
"Despite the recession, companies are willing
to pay top dollar for qualified Oracle professionals. Don Burleson
offers guidance on nabbing the dream Oracle DBA job."
With the experience that comes from running a successful
consulting firm, Don's article addresses the financial appeal of the
DBA job:
"If you look at the help wanted ads,
Oracle DBA jobs look very appealing with salaries that rival
engineers and other professionals, with starting salaries as high as
$85,000 with senior Oracle DBA's commonly earning over $130,000 per
year with
Oracle superstars earning over a quarter million
dollars a year."
He goes on to add information on why these appealing
salaries exist:
"There are two major reasons for higher
salaries among Oracle professionals. First, Oracle DBAs manage
databases that are worth billions of dollars, and with big
responsibilities come big salaries. Second, Oracle's database is the
world's most robust and flexible in the industry, and it often takes
years to learn all of its nuances."
