When I lived in New York, a small community of immigrants was moved into a suburban neighborhood "project".  Within a week, a significant numbers of outdoor pets began to "go missing". 

The police caught one family in the process of skinning a house cat, and they did not understand why they cited for a crime.  These foreigners thought that the cute kitties and delicious pups were a wildlife food source to be hunted and eaten, just like American rural people hunt and eat Possum.  They had a good point, what is accepted in one country is illegal in another.  The Internet is only 15 years old, but individual States, sovereign countries and global organizations are still jockeying to come-up with appropriate into Internet access

This same attitude exists today, but instead of pets, we addressing the issue of intellectual property theft and Internet publisher responsibilities.

Support the SOPA Act!

While IP laws are evolving, SOPA can be better than filing endless DMCA requests that are ignored by foreign countries. Foreign countries have their own Internet laws, which might, or might not, match USA law.

The SOPA Act takes us back to truth, justice and the American way, a time when newspaper, book and magazine publishers were legally responsible for that they publish.

• In a nutshell, any web site or forum is a publisher, and like a publisher, they are responsible for what they distribute, whether they wrote it or not.
  
• Under the DMCA, when eBay helped burglars sell stolen goods they used the DMCA to claim that they are "just a venue", immunized by DMCA Section 230. 
  
• The SOPA law will aggressively go after sites that violates American laws, including extradition to the US, with long prison terms for serious offenses (threatening, stealing, identify theft). 

I  hear that the US Federal prisons offers much better accommodations than the average North Korean home, so we may see a huge influx of SOPA criminals enjoying themselves at Club Fed.

Online Piracy:  Is hot linking the same as stealing?

SOPA would also prevent sites like WikiLeaks from publishing stolen property and classified SECRET material, but instantly blocking their IP address.

SOPA and Internet plagiarism

I was recently the victim of a theft whereby some communists scanned-in one of my bestselling Oracle books and gave it away for free downloads in Russia and China.  

The FBI Cybercrime unit told me that they have very little control against those who abuse the web with criminal acts and SOPA will help them to enforce US law against bad guys, anywhere on the planet.

 Many foreign content thieves do not understand the concept of private ownership, because they are communists.  I one had an author submit a chapter to be for publication which consisted entirely of cut-and-paste from other people's work.  When I confronted him, he denied all culpability because he has copy-pasted from approved sources in the Oracle documentation!

This fellow genuinely believed that internet property was free for the taking.
