Question: That is Oracle SSO? Is it
any different in functionality to other single password repository
SSO software such as RACF?
Answer:
Oracle has had SSO functionality since the early 2000's for Oracle
eBusiness Suite (formerly Oracle Applications), and related
components, such as Discoverer, Portal, Oracle Database and OS
sign-on. The older SSO was replaced by a new Enterprise Single Sign-on (ESSO)
in 2015. The Enterprise SSO is a new way of single
password management for Oracle database, Oracle applications
(eBusiness suite), external applications and operating systems
logins.
The ESSO package was purchased from Passlogix, is part of
Oracle's Identity Management Suite (IMS).
Oracle SSO identity management now
covers all areas of Oracle user security including regulatory
compliance (HIPAA, GLB, SOX) and reduces management costs of
providing a single source for user identity management, similar to
the RACF single sign-on tool from the 20th century IBM mainframes.
By creating a single source for user log-in's, the end-user only has
to remember a single password.
