Question: I am
getting the ORA-19698 error using an RMAN restore:
I'm trying to recover the database after restoring the
database from hot backup, error message is getting like
this:
ora-19698: /u01/oradata/redo01.log is from
different database:
Answer: The oerr utility shows
this for the ORA-19698 error:
ORA-19698: %s is from different
database: id=%s, db_name=%s
*Cause: Catalog failed
because the database id in file header
does not match the
one in control file.
*Action: Supply the correct file
belonging to this database.
Note: It this was a cold backup, do not use the RMAN
RECOVER command!
Simply issue the ALTER DATABASE OPEN
RESETLOGS command;
If the error "ORA-19698: %s is from different database"
is seen during an Oracle disaster recovery operation,
perform the following:
1. Bring the database to
nomount state (Steps mentioned below):
At a command
prompt, type the following command: SQLplus / as SYSDBA
type shutdown immediate;
type startup nomount;
2. Empty the contents of the directory (under the
oradata directory) containing the data files and online redo
logs of the newly created database.
3. Re-try the
control file restore operation.
