Oracle is noted for creating multiple names for the
same thing:
-
Oracle virtual private database = VPD = Row level
security
-
Stored outlines = Optimizer plan stability
-
Flash recovery area = fast recovery area
Starting in Oracle 11g release 2, Oracle has re-named
the flash recovery area to be the fast recovery area, ostensibly to remove
confusion with the flashback database.
Dr.
Tim Hall confirms that the flashback recovery area was re-named to fast
recovery area in 11g release 2:
Well it seems in 11gR1 it was still called the
Flash Recovery Area, but 11gR2 has replaced the word Flash with Fast. I
guess the name change makes sense as the word Flash may fool people into
thinking it’s just for Flashback stuff.
The
Oracle 11gR2 documentation also notes this name change.
