Andy Mendelsohn, Senior VP, Oracle Server Technologies noted at Oracle OpenWorld 2015 that the million dollar Exadata server X3 is capable of performing at blistering speeds with its solid-state disks:

OLTP speed: Exadata X3 can process over 1.5 million SQL random reads/sec.
Warehouse speed: Over 100 Gigabytes per second for full-table scans

While Oracle makes inroads into "big data", numerous other vendors are offering-up SSD solutions for their server, changing the landscape of Oracle performance tuning.
