Question: That is the new Enterprise
version of single sign-on, and how is ESSO different from the
regular SSO architecture?
Answer: Oracle
Enterprise Single Sign-on (ESSO) is a new way of single password
management for Oracle database, Oracle applications (eBusiness
suite), operating systems.
ESSO is a complete replacement for the obsolete
SSO used by the older Oracle Applications.
The ESSO package was purchased from
Passlogix, is
part of Oracle's Identity Management Suite (IMS), and an integral
part of Oracle's Oracle identity management now covers all areas of
Oracle user security including regulatory compliance (HIPAA, GLB,
SOX) and reduces management costs of providing a single source for
user identity management.
Similar in functionality to the RACF single sign-on tool from the
20th century IBM mainframes, ESSO creates a single place for user
log-in's, one place to manage connections to all systems, and the
end-user only has to remember a single password.
ESSO is driver via a GUI that replaces the sign-on requirements
for the Oracle Database, the Application Server layer (WebLogic),
and offers password centralization for many hardware environments,
all the way from Windows servers to IBM mainframes.
The ESSO GUI is easily installed and it can be configured using
the wizard steps in less than an hour.
To test ESSO in a development environment you can download a
non-production copy of
ESSO for testing.
