Oracle MOSC re-written in APEX
December 19, 2005
Oracle has re-written their
MOSC site using their own
APEX tool, a hugely popular rapid application development
environment for Oracle. According to the MOSC web site
there are other improvements too:
The most significant
improvements that you will notice are:
-
Side Bar Navigation
will be replaced with a Tab/Sub-tab Hierarchy
- This has been one of the most highly
customer-requested enhancements which will drastically Improve
and simplify navigation. When viewing articles, this change
will significantly expand the current viewing area of all
articles.
-
Improved “Quick
Search” capabilities - The Quick
Search options will appear at the top of every screen and will
provide more direct access to knowledge repositories and other
data sources. By selecting from one of nine search filters you
can focus your quick search like never before.
-
Search results
can include “hosted” or “assisted” links pointing you to closely
related articles and tools.
-
Sign out capability
- You will no longer need to close your browser when you need to
log out of MOSC, providing increased security as well as
convenience.
-
References to “TAR”
are changed to “Service Request” or “SR”
- The “TAR” acronym has been replaced with “Service Request” or
“SR”. Please be aware that this is a name change only and was
made to more fully align MOSC with industry and Oracle
standards. Associated functionality has not been changed.
A Tour of the new MOSC:
The new MOSC includes an APEX
sign-in screen, and the ability to log off via a button. The
new MOSC also remembers a current sign-on via cookies (if your
browser is configured to support cookies):
The new MOSC sign-on screen
includes a "security disclaimer":
Security Disclaimer: This
site is intended solely for use by authorized Oracle customers,
partners, and employees. Use of this site is subject to the
Legal Notices and Terms for Use and Privacy Statement located on
this site. Use of this site by Oracle employees is also subject
to company policies, including the Employee Code of Conduct, the
Internal Privacy Policy, the Acceptable Use Policy and the
Information Protection Policy. Unauthorized access or breach of
the Legal Notices and Terms for Use, and/or the Privacy
Statement will result in termination of your authorization to
use this site and/or civil and criminal penalties.
The new main MOSC screen has access
to all main MOSC functions. Note that the term "TAR"
(Technical Assistance Request) is now replaced by "SR" (Service
Request):
You can also pull-down major search
areas within the new MOSC:
The search engine in MOSC
highlights search terms but it is not yet as sophisticated a Google,
especially in the areas of precision and recall.
In sum, Oracle has made great headway
into improving the interface layer of the new MOSC with HTML-DB
and Java.
