Get your licenses for Oracle
10g AWR and ADDM
The Oracle Store now has online purchase to get licenses to the
Automatic Workload Repository. Many Oracle professionals assume
that because AWR is built-in to the Oracle10g kernel that they can
access the dba_hist tables without buying the extra-cost license.
The
Oracle documentation notes that there are some tables that do
not require a license to query (as audited in the
dba_feature_usage_statistics table).
"All data dictionary views beginning with the
prefix DBA_HIST_ are part of this pack, along with their
underlying tables. The only exception are the views:
DBA_HIST_SNAPSHOT, DBA_HIST_DATABASE_INSTANCE, DBA_HIST_SNAP_ERROR,
DBA_HIST_SEG_STAT, DBA_HIST_SEG_STAT_OBJ, and DBA_HIST_UNDOSTAT.
They can be used without the Diagnostic Pack license."
Oracle Database Diagnostic Pack is a $3,000 extra-cost option,
and you must have a license to access the Oracle10g AWR and ADDM
components. This includes AWR (Automatic Workload Repository), the
dbms_workload_repository package, the awrrpt.sql and awrrpti.sql
reports, any of the dba_hist and v$active_session_history views,
ADDM - Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor, and all dba_advisor
views.
