Cruise ship suite cost tips

Independent cruise tips for the professional at Leisure

March 2009

Every cruise line has different suite configurations, all at differing costs.  Some cruise lines like NCL offer giant suites with thousands of square feet, with private hot tubs and other amenities while other cruise lines have only a few suites.

Royal Caribbean has special amenities for those who buy suites (not the junior suite), and if you are entertaining guests, buying a suite is a great deal!  We chose one of the four owners suites aboard the Independence of the Seas, currently the world’s largest cruise ship (until the Oasis sails in December 2009).

Cruise ship suite prices

As a general rule, cruise ship suites are priced according to the square footage.  For example, the owner’s suite is about 4x the size of a normal balcony stateroom, and it’s about 4x the cost.

The cruise ship suites come with huge bathrooms, almost as large as an entire inside stateroom.

The concierge services with cruise ship suites

The price of a suite entitles you to use the concierge lounge, plus the services of a dedicated concierge who will stock your suite with complementary wine of you are entertaining guests.

The Owners suite

Many cruise ships offer several large suites with cute names like "Royal suite", presidential suite" and the owners suite".  On Royal Caribbean, the owners suite is the only one designed for only two passengers, and it's about four times the size of a typical balcony stateroom, and about four times the cost.

However, if you are using the suite for entertaining large numbers of guests, and owners suite is a great deal because you can get it stocked with free liquor and wine, saving a small fortune.
